ALL THINGS Work For Your Good – Day 3

Sometimes, it’s easy to feel trapped inside our own feelings, especially if we don’t understand how God could possibly work something out for our good. I experienced this, first hand.

I found out I was pregnant with my daughter on a Tuesday. That Friday, I had all the symptoms of miscarrying (again) and the doctors confirmed my nightmare. Every pregnancy marker was there, but there was no egg sac on the ultrasound. I was destroyed. I couldn’t possibly see how any good could come from losing another baby.

The doctors ran a bunch of tests to find out why I lost my pregnancies so many times and discovered I have hypothyroidism. They sent me home after telling me to expect to finish miscarrying over the weekend, but asked me to return Monday to see if my pregnancy hormones doubled.

They also scheduled an appointment with an endocrinologist to get my thyroid hormones sorted out.

The miscarriage symptoms stopped Friday night. That weekend, I kept feeling God’s reassurance that everything would be okay, that we would have a daughter. I kept envisioning a blonde little miracle girl, and clung to the hope of that vision with every fiber of my being. That Monday, my pregnancy hormones doubled again.

The doctors still didn’t have much hope, but told me we the next step was to wait several weeks and get an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy with a heartbeat. That was the longest three and a half weeks of my life, but I am happy to report, an egg sac with a heartbeat “somehow” appeared in glorious, grainy, black and white on that screen. Our miracle baby was in there!

I saw the endocrinologist shortly thereafter. She stressed how it was a huge blessing they discovered I was hypothyroid when they did because, if left untreated, my daughter probably would have had severe developmental issues.

Thanks to God’s grace, the previous miscarriages, which seemed so hopeless and awful at the time, gave us the knowledge we needed to take the necessary steps to save my daughter. I am so blessed to report she is happy, healthy, and very bright.

We may not always see it, because his ways are definitely not our own, but God is always working for our good. Always.

With today’s post, we’re continuing the Overflowing Jesus Journal prompts, and this is Day 3. If you missed them, here are the Day 1 and Day 2 prompts. The Day 1 post explains the whole premise, so please read it before you begin!

Day 3:

Read over this verse and let it sink into your soul before you begin writing.

Romans 8:28 (NIV) – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Today’s is a three part prompt:

Step 1:

  • What is God’s promise to you in this verse? How does this verse make you feel? Be honest. God loves you, always, no matter what.

Step 2: Pick one of the following two prompts:

  • Prompt 1If your life feels great, neutral, or anywhere in-between:
    • Thank God for your blessings!
    • Write a prayer for someone else.
  • Prompt 2 – If things feel dire:
    • Pour your heart out on the page. God can handle it. Tell God all your anxieties and fears, and completely release them to him. Thank Him for bringing healing, hope, peace, and resolution.
    • Write down potential ways you will learn and grow from this season and benefit from it in the future.

Step 3:

  • Think over the last 24 hours and thank God for 3 things. Notice the little things, too: a happy moment, a thoughtful gesture, something that brought you peace, hope, or joy, etc. Reminder: No repeats from previous entries!

If this is your first time here, welcome! This is one of 40 prayer journal posts. To keep moving through them, just click the left button on the post carousel below and follow them in chronological order to get the full healing experience. Just let God move through them at a pace that brings you peace. I pray this experience blesses you, brings clarity, and draws you closer to God, the way it did for me and many other people!
