May The Fruit Be With You – Day 12

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

I never understood the fruit of the spirit until I heard somewhere (and I wish I remembered where so I could give that person credit) the fruit is like an orange. It’s a single piece of fruit, but when you peel it open, each characteristic is tucked inside, just like individual juicy orange wedges, waiting for us to pull them out savor them. They are unique, but they all belong together.

I’m still developing the traits from the verse, above, but I’ve realized how, together, they create a one-of-a-kind experience for the senses. Life tastes better with them. It smells more fragrant. It’s refreshed, just like when the cool juices touch our tongues. They quench our thirst and make us smile. They can also make life a little messy as we grow in certain areas and release old ways of being to make way for the fruitier side. (Especially patience!) But, if you don’t let yourself get caught up in the stickiness, and you focus on the whole, they work together to transform your life in undeniable ways.

Overflowing Jesus Journal: Day 12

Today, we’re continuing the prayer journal prompts. Prayer journaling is a beautiful way to focus our prayers and keep our eyes on Jesus.

For today’s journal entry, re-read the verse above and let it sink into your soul. Pray a prayer asking God to make you more “fruity.” Thank him for opening your eyes to see what he needs you to see and write the following as a prayer.

  • Which fruit of the spirit comes the most naturally to you? Thank God for that characteristic and ask him showing you how to use it to be a light for him. Write down any ideas that come to mind.
  • Which fruit do you struggle with the most? Write a prayer asking Jesus to make you more like him in that area.  God’s grace, mercy, and patience are infinite, so ask him to grant you the ability to show yourself patience and grace as you learn and grow.
  • List three things you’re grateful for from the last 48 hours. Remember, no repeats from previous entries!
