Need more balance in your life? Want more joy? Sister, you are not alone! We all do. Today’s post contains one simple trick to help you find both of those, and we’ll do it by building upon what we already learned. In Day 25 we discussed our subconscious need to say yes and acknowledged how an errant yes can be quite destructive. We also journaled about ways to overcome our addiction to pleasing people.
In the Day 26 post, we discussed how our time is limited and we have to say no to the things that don’t matter so we have room in our lives to choose yeses that do matter. Then, we practiced saying no.
Today, we’re taking it a step further. We’re going to start activity swapping. In this step, for every one thing you agree to add to your calendar or routine, you’ll need to remove or delegate at least one thing to make room for it. Make a plan.
Remember: Time is finite. You must use it well.
Overflowing Jesus Journal: Day 27
Read the following verse and let it sink into your soul. What do you think it means in light of our yes and no discussion?
Psalm 127:2 NIV – In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.
When you’re ready, say a prayer for God to reveal his wisdom to you through your writing, and then journal your answers to the following as a prayer:
- Consider how the level of “toiling” you experience in your life is impacted by your choices. What insights did you glean?
- What is something you’ve wanted to say yes to, but haven’t had the time? Why does it matter to you?
- Start thinking of things you can remove from your schedule to make time for the yes.
- Write about why it’s important to take one thing off your plate for every new thing you want to add to it. Discuss the importance of filling your limited space with the right things.
- Thank God for three things you’re grateful for from the last 24 hours.
